December 2003. During the transition period, continue to use the following ERIC

- Link to the ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS) to purchase ERIC full-text
documents

- Stay up-to-date about the ERIC transition to a new contractor and model
Although the ERIC clearinghouses are now closed, most have moved their electronic

The Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education contains comprehensive
information services in adult and continuing education, career education, vocational
and technical education, and employment and training. Links include ACVE publications,
journals on the web, related websites, an extensive search engine, as well as
a link to off-site full-text resources.

The new ERIC online system, released September 2004, provides the public with
a centralized ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of
more than 1.1 million citations going back to 1966. Effective October 1, more
than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004), previously
available through fee-based services only, are available for free.

Counseling Outfitters is a new company created by the Co-Directors of the ERIC
Clearinghouse on Counseling and Student Services (ERIC/CASS) to continue the
development and delivery of many of the services and products previously provided
by ERIC/CASS.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional
organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with
exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates
for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides
continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved
individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions
and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The Early Childhood and Parenting Collaborative at the University of Illinois
is home to more than a dozen projects focused on the education, care, and parenting
of young children. One of those projects is The Clearinghouse on Early Education
and Parenting (CEEP). CEEP, originally funded by the U.S. Department of Education
as the ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education (since
1967) and now continuing its work under a new name and with new funding, produces
a bilingual (Spanish and English), peer-reviewed, Internet-only journal titled
Early Childhood Research & Practice; operates more than two dozen web sites
for local, state, and national early childhood projects and organizations; supports
Internet discussion groups on topics related to early childhood education, professional
development, and parenting; provides Internet chats, workshops, and seminars
on early childhood education and on Internet use; and develops databases for
funding partners.

The Center for Applied Linguistics is a private, non-profit organization of
scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences
in identifying and addressing language-related problems. CAL carries out a wide
range of activities including research, teacher education, analysis and dissemination
of information, design and development of instructional materials, technical
assistance, conference planning, program evaluation, and policy analysis.

The Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication is an information repository
of the Indiana University School of Education. The Kids Can Learn! site, a project
of the Family Learning Association in collaboration with the Clearinghouse,
contains a Family Information Center, free lesson plans, ask an expert homework
helper, and parent links.
Clearinghouse on Rural Education and Small Schools

AEL is a nonprofit corporation that provides education research, development,
professional development, and consulting services in the P-12 arena. The name
AEL originated with the first program the corporation operated in 1966-the Appalachia
Educational Laboratory-but today AEL is national in scope and provides a range
of services to private and government agencies. In print, the corporation is
referred to simply as AEL; the laboratory program, which continues to be operated
by AEL, is referred to as the Regional Educational Laboratory at AEL.

Educational REALMS (Resources for Engaging Active Learners in Mathematics and
Science) is a new organization created in 2004 after the discontinuation of
the federally funded ERIC Clearinghouse for Science, Mathematics and Environmental
Education (ERIC/CSMEE). Educational REALMS hopes to pick up where ERIC/CSMEE
left off by providing many of the same services and offering a variety of resources
to anyone interested in science, mathematics, technology, and environmental
education at all levels. They are located on the campus of The Ohio State University,
Columbus, OH.
Clearinghouse for Social Studies/Social Science Education

The Social Studies Development Center, located in Bloomington, Indiana, houses
digests, links to other Internet social studies resources, a directory of social
studies resource organizations, and social studies standards and curriculum
frameworks for most states.
Clearinghouse on Urban Education

The Institute for Urban and Minority Education conducts research and evaluation,
provides information services, and assists schools, community-based organizations,
and parent school leaders in program development and evaluation, professional
development, and parent education. The Center for Information and Resources
on Education and the Community (CIREC) is the information and training component
of IUME. CIREC's new web site features a web resource and research collection
on urban education and related subjects.
